War Related Zippos
This is one of my favorite Zippos. It's
a 1943 Black Crackle lighter. Beginning in 1942 Zippo began making
their lighters out of porous steel because of shortages in brass and chrome
due to WWII. The entire production of Zippos during the war was shipped
overseas to the American troops. This particular Zippo is mint, never
been lit. It came in it's original box along with the instruction book.
The box suffered some damage from a piece of scotch tape though.
1990 - Desert Shield 1991 - Desert Storm
1989 - Replica Cap Reads: "This Zippo stopped an enemy bullet in Vietnam. It still works today."
Body of the lighter reads: "Last November 12, Sgt. Andres Martinez was fighting in the front lines- Arphan, South Vietnam. An enemy bullet hit the sergeant in the left breast pocket. Right smack in the Zippo lighter. The lighter got ventilated. Sgt. Martinez did not."
This is a 1947 Chrome Plated Nickel lighter that is absolutely Mint. I've placed it in this group because it if from Lehigh, Pennslyvania and advertises the Post Exchange at Lehigh University which is a Military School. A Post Exchange is like a general store at a Military Base. Hence it makes this a Military related Zippo. Get it?
