Sailfish live in both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. the Atlantic variety being somewhat smaller than it's Pacific counterpart. In Key West waters sailfish tend to weigh from 35 to 80 pounds or more. Beautiful and acrobatic, these fish make excellant trophies for home or office. With modern methods, a skilled taxidermist can make a mounted replica from measurements and a photo taken before the fish is released. Sailfish are caught year-round in waters near Key West. However, as with the blue marlin, spring and fall are best for sailfish.

The black grouper is the most common grouper found in Key West. Sometimes weighing 50 or more pounds, these strong fish, when hooked, head for the bottom, and as often as not manage to to break the line on sharp coral. Bottom dwellers, they are best fished deep to get the bait near coral formations. Cooler water seems to attract larger fish into shallower areas during winter and spring, the best time for grouper fishing.

The Dolphin, known as "dorado" in Latin America and "mahi mahi"in the Pacific, the dolphin is one of themost colorful creatures found anywhere. Seemingly always to take a baited hook, spectacular in its leaps and stamina , and unbeatable as tablefare, the dolphin is a favorite of all saltwater anglers. These fish are caught in sizes ranging from 5 to 60 or more pounds. The smaller fish generally stay in schools of hundreds, whereas the larger ones travel in pairs or small groups. A large male is often found with one or two females. In the late spring and summer, floating boards or mats of sargassum weed, in or near the gulfstream, are favorite haunts of these majestic fish.

The Wahoo is found in tropical and sub-tropical waters around the world. It is a member of the mackerel family and is prized by anglers because of its lightening fast runs, and excellant tablefare qualities. They range in size from 25, to over 100 pounds. Fall months are generally the most productive, but wahoo are caught year round in Key West waters.
