June 30th - July 7th News
INTERESTING NEWS OF THE DAY 6/30/99:
Mt. Graham youth employees:
According to a reliable source, on a recent visit to
Mt. Graham, it was noted that youth from the Bylas Community were employed
there. It was also noted that these youth happened to be children of Bylas
Council members. When questioned as to how the youth were hired, a supervisor
responded, "Each year we give six slots to the Bylas Council to fill."
Vera Belvado's Appeal:
After Vera Belvado's famous bite of flesh of infamous
CTA leader, the Apache Gold Casino barred her from entering the facility.
Recently, on Friday, June 25th, Vera appealed the decision of the Gaming
Commissioners - the outcome of the appeal, according to John, the Director
of Tribal Gaming, the decision of the Commissioners is confidential and
could not be released. However, sources have stated that Vera Belvado won
the appeal and will be allowed to enter the Casino in August of this year.
Her total punishment was banishment for 3.5 months - WOW!
Special Council Meetings Still in Abundance
Notices posted on the Tribal Administration show that
a Special Meeting will be held in Phoenix on July 1st in the BIA Area Director's
office. Agenda Items are all listed in Executive Session. 1) Resolution
to amend Procurement Manual - Joe Sparks; 2) Resolution authorizing CAP
Check Signers - Joe Sparks; 3) Approval of Lease Agreement for Capital
Equipment - Millie Stiffarm, Dir. Of Soil and Conservation Prg.; and 4)
Resolution of Check Signers for Tribe - Q.Wiley, Acting Treasurer. Another
Special meeting is scheduled in the Tribal Council Hall for July 2. Agenda
Items are again all listed in Executive Session. 1) Update on Life Insurance
Policies - Tony Machukay; 2) Concerns on Travel Policy - M.Faras; 3) Resolution
on International Olympic Games - H.Talgo; 4) Resolution to accept Audit
Proposal - Q.Wiley; 5) Apache Gold Casino Concerns - V.Cassa; and 6) Application
Review for Tribal Treasurer's Position - Tony Machukay. Apparently these
items are strictly confidential and must only be discussed in Executive
Session, plus not to mention additional $100 to fatten the Council's pockets.
Tribe will no longer make available any Resolutions or
Minutes pertaining to Water Rights or Land
Inside sources have said, public information will no
longer include any information specifically water and land issues. Interestingly,
this makes all actions of the Council with regards to the Tribe's precious
resources completely secret. Apparently, all these resources do not belong
to the Tribe as a whole, but only to the 10 member Council.
Tribal Council pass new Fire Ordinance
A revision of the Fire Ordinance addresses Fireworks,
possessing, or discharging, only by a Pyrotechnician (a person who is certified
to discharge fire works) in an area designated by the SCAT.; Buildings,
maintaing, attending or using a fire, charcoal boiler or a coal or wood
stove without a permit, except in developed camp and picnic grounds where
grills and stoves are provided. Stoves means a campfire built inside an
enclosed stove or grill, a portable brazier, or perssurized liquid or gas
stove, including a space heating device; Smoking, except within an enclosed
vehicle or building, a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an
area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable
material. This Order becomes effective at 8:00 am, June 25, 1999 and will
remain in force until rescinded; Further resolved the enforcement of the
code shall begin 90 days after the enactment of this order.
Tribe still continues High Risk Status
According to sources, the funds for the Tribe is at an
all time low. According to sources the Tribe is still considered at High
Risk Status, however according to the Vice Chairman's Saturday radio show,
he is taking time to spend extra dollars to beg Washington Representatives
to give the Tribe more money; also special notice should be taken that
according to a Ft. McDowell Councilmember, San Carlos Apaches are the Tribe
where their Tribal Council is always trying to get a hold of some of their
Casino money. What kind of reputation are the Council giving our great
Apache Nation?
Sandra Rambler's Position as Tribal Secretary nears end will she continue?
Where oh where will it all end….
Will there ever be Justice?
Time will tell…
Still as we speak the wheels are turning…
The People will have plenty of time
To Rejoice
Patience………
