COMPACT DISCS (CD-Rs)
CAP-1 RAY
CARMEN - OBSCURITY KNOCKS (Home Recordings
1987-1997)
$5.00
Neophytes, start here…
This
is a collection of home recordings from various and scattered cassette
releases
over a ten year period. A great sampler, since it features songs
from
nearly all of Carmen's CD-R releases. Sort of a "greatest hits"
package, if he were to have any. Be the first on your block to
own this
fine piece of work. Hell, be the ONLY one. Whatever.
100%
grunge free. track

CAP-3
RAY CARMEN - HANGER 18 $5.00
The
release formerly known as Mayhem Steamroller is now Carmen’s
sole purely experimental release.
Thirteen murky soundtracks to various daydreams and nightmares, using
tape
edits and primitive sampling as “vocals”.
Not a
new idea to be sure, but it’s
fun, and kinda goofy in places.
Oh, the humanity! track listing
CAP-6
RAY CARMEN - TOO OLD FOR ANGST (includes the
NOVEMBER
EP) $5.00
One
of Ray’s
best cassette
releases is now available on CD-R, with all five tracks from
NOVEMBER interspersed, now remastered as one cohesive album. TOO
OLD has
a folky/progressive sound, while NOVEMBER is almost all acoustic.
Highly
recommended, if we do say so ourselves. ;) Includes the My Bloody
Valentine-meets-Nick Drake epic Monster, Changes, and Hello In
There. 16
songs. track listing MP3
CAP-PRO1 KINSKI SPIRAL - WORK IN PROGRESS (promo only EP) track listing
CAP-7
KINSKI SPIRAL - HYMNS AND FRAGMENTS $5.00
Kinski
Spiral’s
debut album,
features 13 tracks that recall the experimentalism of White
Album-era Beatles, and a host of other influences, from Karlheinz
Stockhausen
to the Monkees. From the sweeping psychedelic coda of Beyond The
Clouds
to the world-weary Robert Fludd and all points in between, HYMNS is a
roller
coaster ride through the wild musical mood swings of
multi-instrumentalists Bob
Ethington and Ray Carmen, and vocalist Erin Carracher. This is a
beautiful, adventurous pop album, encompassing psychedelic power-pop,
baroque-flavored ballads, sixties girl-group vocals, home made
avant-garde
sound bites, cosmic bubble-gum, weird rock-n-roll instrumentals, and
much
more. HYMNS is an album for music geeks of all ages. track

CAP-8
VARIOUS ARTISTS - 'TILL NEXT: THE KEN CLINGER TRIBUTE ALBUM
$5.00
One
of THE godfathers of home taping gets his very own tribute
album courtesy of Cut And Paste Records. Compiled by long-time
fan and
collaborator Ray Carmen, this album features songs written by (or
inspired by)
Ken Clinger, still to this day probably the most unique and original
artist in
the underground. Ken’s
songs
get
the royal treatment from thirteen different artists, including
MJB, K. D. Schmitz, Don Campau, Dino Dimuro, Ray Carmen, John Lisiecki,
Jack
Jordan, and several others, plus a tribute by the world’s
first Ken Clinger cover
band! Listen in as
Clinger is paid a long overdue tribute by just a few of his many
friends and
fellow musicians. 13 tracks. track listing
CAP-9
KINSKI SPIRAL - SILVER SCREAM EP $5.00
(formerly
known as Elizabeth
Disappears...different title, same great music!) This
ep
contains three tracks, two from the forthcoming acoustic release,
SILENT STARS,
and one from the just-released experimental album KONTAKTE. Don't
Know is
a haunting acoustic ballad, while My Own Company is a homage to one of
KS's
favorite bands, the Cocteau Twins. The centerpiece, however, is
the 14
minute-plus ambient epic, Elizabeth Disappears, from KONTAKTE.
This piece
sounds like it could be the soundtrack to an unmade Coen Brothers
southern
backwater swamp murder mystery. If you think HYMNS was
schizophrenic,
wait until you hear this. track listing MP3
CAP-12
RAY CARMEN AND KEN CLINGER - SNOW DAY EP
$5.00
Three
Christmas songs and two songs that sound like they should be
Christmas songs. Starts off with the pop classic Jingle Bell
Rock,
continues with Clinger's lead vocal on the wonderful Let It Snow, and
concludes
with remixes of two tracks from HOPES AND FEARS. Break out the
egg nog
and don't forget the seat belts on the way home. 5 songs. track listing
CAP-13
RAY CARMEN - CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG
$5.00
Ray
covers the Monkees, the Beatles, the Residents, Queen, Ken Clinger,
Michael J.
Bowman, Slapp Happy, Sarah McLachlan and R. Stevie Moore!
Highlights
include collaborations with Ken Clinger, Natalie Harker, K.D. Schmitz,
and his
daughter Kayla. 12 songs. track listing
CAP-14
KINSKI SPIRAL - KONTAKTE $5.00
The
second Kinski Spiral album is completely different from
HYMNS. KONTAKTE is part Kraftwerk-inspired rhythmic exercises,
part goofy
tape edits recalling the late-80s cassette releases of Steve
Fisk. Tic,
the album's opener, boasts a minimalist drum track, morse code and a
keyboard
that sounds like a music box from some futuristic society. The
second
half reveals more ambient textures, such as How Are You G.I. Joe?,
featuring
samples of Hanoi Hanna, the infamous Vietnamese radio broadcaster
during the
Vietnam War. The masterpiece, of course, is the last track,
Elizabeth Disappears,
the should-be-a-soundtrack collaboration with Ken Clinger. 8
songs.

CAP-17
RAY CARMEN - POP VICTROLA $5.00
Nine
acoustic demos overdubbed on a dual cassette deck (in mono)
in late 1986. It sounds like it was mastered off the back of a
cereal
box, but these recordings do exude a certain "naive charm". All
of these songs were later re-recorded for other releases. This is
what
they sounded like in their embryonic stage. If you like twee
acoustic
McCartney-esque pop (with a hint of Violent Femmes and the Velvet
Underground)
this would be right up your alley. track listing
CAP-18
KEN CLINGER - TIME TRAVEL AND
ASSOCIATION $5.00
TIME
TRAVEL goes through over a decade of songs in
over 70 minutes. Includes Radio, the theme song written and
recorded for
Don Campau’s
“No Pigeonholes” radio
show.
ASSOCIATION is a
collection of songs sung by Ken that were created in associations with
Tom
Furgas, Lawrence Salvatore, Arnold Mathes, Dan Susnara, Dan Fioretti,
Greg
Stomberg, Craig Conley and Ray Carmen. 19 songs. track
listing
CAP-19
RAY CARMEN - PLEASE STAND BY... $5.00
Thirteen
assorted stray and unreleased tracks collected onto one disc.
Includes Carmen's version of Don Campau's Pure Love, along with
Thrush
(an instrumental collaboration with MJB), the infamous Ode
To Jandek, and other various oddities. Somethings old, new,
borrowed and
blue.
Originally titled "Your Mileage May Vary". track listing
CAP-20
RAY CARMEN - NOTHING PERSONAL (revisited) $5.00
First
issued by the Emigre label in 1991, Nothing Personal was
Carmen's first CD release. It also represented his first foray into a
real
studio, instead of recording at home. This reissue contains two bonus
tracks
and a couple of substitutions, including two alternate mixes of
Beckoning, and
a 16-track demo of Me And My Big Mouth. 15 songs. track

CAP-21 RAY
CARMEN & KEN CLINGER - SOUTHBOUND TO ROSWELL
$5.00
A sequel of sorts to
1995's HOPES AND FEARS, this
time Ken Clinger writes words to exisiting Ray Carmen instrumentals
(and a few
new ones), and the results are 11 very cool tunes! Ken's lighthearted,
surreal
and playful lyrics perfectly match Ray's eclectic instrumental tracks.
There's
some great pop tunes (Down The Rabbit Hole, Anything Anytime Anywhere),
an
atmospheric track (Gather), a couple of heartfelt ballads (Long Way
Home,
Leaves Of Absence), a bizarre country tune about an alien girlfriend
(the great
title track), a song for kids (Little Clockwork Man), and even a lesson
in
Esperanto(Kafeja Muziko) that William Shatner would love. track
listing
CAP-22 KINSKI
SPIRAL
- SILENT
STARS $5.00
Kinski Spiral’s
brand new album is their third full-length release. SILENT
STARS finds the band with a new third member in the studio (Joe LaRose,
engineering, mixing and additional instruments) and a new
approach. They’ve
stripped things down,
revealing touches of
Dylan-esque folk, Velvet Underground pop filtered through the Monkees,
creepy
lounge-jazz, country, Indian Raga-rock, and more. The band thinks
this is
their best one yet, and we agree. 9 songs. track

incredible guitar playing! This is FUN! It is available through

RAY CARMEN -
I Told
Her Everything b/w Big Mistake CD
single
$2.00
Two brand-new tunes
from Ray's forthcoming album
OLD SCHOOL, OLD FOOL.
The A-side is a
typical solo ballad, while the double A-side is a
killer collaboration with underground legend R. Stevie Moore! track
listing
Vrrain
is not only a great pop songwriter, he’s
also got a great voice, and the jangliest guitar sound
in the pop music underground! A “tweener”
is a baseball term referring
to a ball hit between two outfielders, but in our book, these ten
tunes are all home runs! And they're leftovers, for cryin’
out loud!
Buy this tape and PLAY
BALL! 10 songs. track

CAP-27
DON CAMPAU - OUTTAKES AND RARE TRACKS
CD $5.00
OUTTAKES
is a sampler from one of the godfathers of
home taping! Campau has been writing and recording underground
music
since the early seventies. He also hosts the “No
Pigeonholes” radio show, the first show to play home made
music exclusively, which has been running since its’
inception in 1978!
His own cassette catalog, Lonely Whistle Music, features tons of tapes
not only
from Don himself, but from home tapers all over the world! It
would be
WELL worth your effort to check it out! In the meantime, here’s
12 tunes to tide you over until then.

RICH ARITHMETIC - NOTES FROM THE HELIUM
AUXILIARY CD $5.00
For
years Optional Art’s
Rich
Arithmetic has used his home
4-track recordings to work out arrangements, demo songs for other
musicians,
and record incidental sounds for his own records. NOTES offers a
cheap
way of checking out what goes on in Rich’s
mind before you shell out the
bread for
his full-length CD, SLEEP IN A WIGWAM (Optional Art, 1994). 9

CAP-29
KINSKI SPIRAL - KINSKI KOVERS ep
$2.00 track
listing
KINSKI KOVERS is an ep of three cover tunes, featuring KS's take on
Martin
Newell's Let's Get Married, an acoustic version of Hendrix's Purple
Haze, and a
very bizarre version of Devo's The Day My Baby Gave Me A
Surprise. It's
an ep, but since it's so short we're gonna sell it as a single, so
don't miss
out on the fun!
CAP-30
RAY CARMEN - OLD SCHOOL, OLD FOOL CD
$5.00 track
listing
OLD
SCHOOL is a mixture of new songs and re-workings
of tunes in collaboration with R. Stevie Moore, Don Campau and Ken
Clinger. Ambient soundscapes run headfirst into gooey psychedelic
pop,
tribal rhythms slam into autumnal ballads, and power-pop tunes trip
over
ghostly acoustic pieces and electronic folk music. Miraculously,
no one
was hurt. It doesn’t
rock exactly, but it sure
snaps, crackles, and pops. 13
songs.
VELVEETA
HEARTBREAK - DON'T FORGET THE CHEESE: MJB '89-'92
$5.00
Michael
J. Bowman is back with a brand new best-of compilation for Cut And
Paste. It's
called DON'T FORGET THE CHEESE: MJB '89-'92, and it's being released
under his new
moniker Velveeta Heartbreak. These 16 awe-inspiring tracks were
recorded at
home, and originally released on cassettes. track
listing
These
are my very first four-track recordings, circa 1988-1989, and
remastered
for 2007. 13 tracks running the gamut from bubblegum and
power-pop, to
country rock, demented 30’s
swing, cutsey folk
instrumentals,
and faux paux arena-rock
ballads, all bathed in a heaping helping of warm analogue hiss. A
word of
caution: these songs are very twee, lightweight, rather naïve
(hence the
title), and…well,
embarrassing. Don’t
say I didn’t warn you. ☺
CAP-32
RAY CARMEN - DUET YOURSELF CD
$5.00 track
listing
Ray's first full-length cassette release from 1990 gets
remastered and reissued with a restored track listing.
Includes Brand New Boyfriend, The Fall, the bizarre Ode to Jandek, and
two Mike Nesmith covers. After 18 years, this one still seems to
be a favorite with folks. 13 songs.
CAP-33
RAY CARMEN - BUBBLEGUM BUDDHA $5.00
track listing
Despite
the title, this is really weird, encompassing bubblegum pop, country,
surf instrumentals, hard rock
parodies, Vini Reilly-esque guitar pieces, and much more, not to
mention one of Ray's best songs, Out Of
Your Hair. A veritable food fight of musical styles.
Duck! 15 songs.
VINYL
RAY CARMEN -
RADIO FRIENDLY

Four songs from NOTHING PERSONAL, on one of those round plastic things
with
grooves in it where the music comes out of! Already an antique,

and
cassettes to ecstatic acclaim. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. 19
