My father bought it for my mother in 1960. St. Rocco's Church, Youth Center and Drum Corp were a big part of our lives. We were in the Youth Center just about every day. We lived directly across the street. If there was a event at St. Rocco's, Sue, Mike, my mother and father were always there.

It’s about two young fifteen-year-old cadets being stranded at Clove Lake, Staten Island. The driver of “Mother Bus” Carmine Cuomo instructed everyone to be back on the bus and ready to leave at exactly 6:00pm or be left behind. Well, these two (space) Cadets wandered around Clove Lake after the event. And they arrived back at the spot where the bus was parked at 7:00pm. The bus had left without them.
The two Cadets collected their thoughts and counted the money they had in their combined pockets (about a dollar). And did the only thing they could afford. They walked all the way to the Staten Island / Brooklyn Ferry. Once back on land in Brooklyn, they walked all the way back to the Youth Center. When Carmine, the bus driver got home, he explained to his furious wife Louise that the rules were for EVERYONE. The two Cadets were Modesto (Desto) Cuomo and Neil Gargiulo.
This is one of my great memories of St. Rocco’s Cadets and, my father.
PS: If it were any other boys he would never had left without them.
