The gunny had a heart attack and departed this world just six days after his daughter, Jennifer, arrived. John was a single Marine who was "married to the Corps" for nearly 17 years. He married at the end of his career when love of the Marine Corps fell second place to Karen. They shared in his twilight tour of duty with their new son, Jonathan.
I worked with this Marine for nine years. He was one of the hardest working and most caring Devil Dogs I ever had the honor to serve with. Any Marine can say, "I spent more time with my fellow Marines then I did with my own family." In that respect, how could any Marine NOT be considered family?
