Memorial Day Funology

May 27, 2002

Memorial Day, a day set aside to remember those who have died serving their country, began around 1868 to honor the soliders of the Civil War. It was not until 1971 that Memorial Day became a National Holiday. Around the country flags are flown, graves are decorated and our streets are filled with parades and patriotic music. For many, Memorial Day is a the kick off to the summer season and is celebrated with picnics and family gatherings.
