Purim Funology

March 26, 2002

Purim, the Feast of Lots, is known as a Halloween-like Jewish holiday. The joyous festival commemorates the survival of the Jews who lived in Persia in the 5th century. The complete story of Purim is told in the Old Testament in the Book of Esther. On Purim Jews attend group reading of the Book of Esther, carnivals and parties. The exchange of small gifts and donations to the poor are also traditional ways to celebrate this holiday.
