Welcome to the all-new, no-frills 2008 Official JIM SALICRUP Home Page!

Jim Salicrup gets PAPERCUTZ!

No, I haven't sliced open my fingers reading too many comicbooks, I'm back doing what I enjoy most -- editing comicbooks and graphic novels at an all-new company called Papercutz. We're currently creating all-new graphic novels featuring such well-known characters and titles as Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys, Tales from the Crypt, Classics Illustrated, BIONICLE, Totally Spies, and Zorro. Click on the helpful link way down below for more information.

My Brilliant Career

In a nutshell, I started at Marvel Comics at age 15, as what would today be called a paid intern. I worked my way up the ranks and became an editor of most of Marvel's top titles. After launching the best-selling SPIDER-MAN #1 with Todd McFarlane, it was soon time for me to move on.

At the height of the Big Boom in comics and after 20 great years at Marvel, I became Editor-in-Chief of the newly-created Topps Comics for the Topps Company, Inc. It was great fun, and after becoming Associate Publisher, and launching such titles as The X-Files and Zorro,it was once again time to move on. Besides after the Big Boom, the Big Bust was making it impossible for new publishers to survive.

Luckily, I recieved an offer I couldn't refure -- the opportunity to again work for my idol, Stan Lee. He offered me the job as Writer/Editor at his new online company, Stan Lee Media at the height of the dot-com boom. Since the dot.com bust (notice a pattern?), and the collapse of SLM, I've enjoyed helping Lawrence Klein and the gang start The Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art. I'm currently a Trustee at this fine institution.

As mentioned above, I'm also the Editor-in-Chief at Papercutz. Working with my partner, graphic novel pioneer Terry Nantier, is incredibly exciting and it's the start of a whole new phase in my career and I'm loving every minute of it! Starting a new company from the ground up is quite a challenge, but so far our books have done really well, and the best is yet to come!

Somehow, I've also found the time to do my infamous $5.00 "lousy full-color sketches" at most Big Apple Conventions and the MoCCA Art Festivals.

My Interests...

Well, since I'm interested in just about everything, allow me to just mention that I enjoy ballroom dancing, and support Dancing For Animals, a wonderful nonprofit organization started by Liz Peterson. In a nutshell, she teaches ballroom dances to raise money to support various animal causes. For more info check the link below.

Not only is Fred's site a ton of fun, but be sure to use Fred's LINKS page to check out great columns by Peter Sanderson, Tony Isabella, Mark Evanier, Heidi MacDonald and (truly) many, many more!

And be sure to check out www.moccany.org! The Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art is New York City's only museum devoted to comic and cartoon art and needs your support!

Aside from all that, if I'm not working away at Papercutz, hanging out at MoCCA, dancing for animals, I'll probably reading, listening to music, or watching a DVD. There's always too much to do, so there's never a dull moment!
