What makes up a family?
I was invited to my grandson's school play this year. Their play was done in songs and poems and was about "what makes up a family". I asked his teacher if she would like to share those poems to put on my site. She gladly agreed and sent me the following poems that they performed. I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed the play.
HOME YOU'RE WHERE IT'S WARM INSIDE.
Home! You are a special place;
you're where I wake and wash my face,
brush my teeth and comb my hair,
change my socks and underwear,
clean my ears and blow my nose,
try on all my parent's clothes.
Home! You're where it's wam inside,
where my tears are gently dried,
where I'm comforted and fed
where I'm forced to go to bed,
where there's always love to spare;
Home! I'm glad that you are there.
ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR M-O-T-H-E-R
ONE: I do not like the way that she can glare at me.
TWO: I do not like her being nearly everywhere with me.
THREE: I do not like some things she sometimes makes me eat.
FOUR: I do not like at all her taking me across the street.
BUT
ONE: I like the things she plans that both of us can play.
TWO: I like her listening to stuff I have to say.
THREE: I like the way the two of us can sing.
FOUR: It's just i like her in spite of everything.

MY BROTHER
My brother's worth about two cents,
As far as I can see.
I simply cannot understand
Why they would want a "he".
He spends a good part of his day
Asleep inside the crib,
And when he eats, he has to wear
A stupid baby bib.
He cannot walk and cannot talk
And cannot throw a ball.
In fact, he can't do anything--
He's just no fun at all.
It would have been more sensible,
As far as i can see.
Instead of getting one like him
To get one just like me.

MY BABY SISTER
My baby sister's really swell.
I love her smile, but not her smell.
THE LITTLE SISTER STORE
When my silly little sister knocks my blocks down on the floor.
I tell her I will sell her at the Little Sister Store.
She knows I'm only joking, that there isn't such a shop;
But even though she knows it--At least it makes her stop!
GROWING OLD
When I grow old I hope to be
As beautiful as Grandma Lee.
Her hair is soft and fluffy white.
Her eyes are blue aand candle bright.
And down her cheeks are cunning piles
Of little ripples when she smiles.

GRANDMOTHERS
Grandmothers are kind-- Kind of useful as well,
They help you with words; They teach you to spell.
They search when things hide, Like a sweater or shoe,
And if baby just cries, They know what to do.
They always like reading, loud and, whats more,
They'll read twenty times, What they've read before.
They don't say "NOT THAT!" "NO! NOW LISTEN TO ME!"
They'll go for a walk, Or sit under a tree.
They'll stop at the store for some fudge or a coke;
Or laugh when you start And can't finish a joke.
They don't like to skate, And they can't climb a tree.
What are Grandmothers good for? Well, mine's good for me.

GRANDPA
Grandpa is old. He is older than me.
But he is not as old, As the sky or the sea.
Grandpa is big. He is bigger than me.
But he is not as big, As the old oak tree.
Grandpa is smart. He is smarter than me.
But I'll be smart, When I'm 63.
COUSINS ARE COZY
Cousins are cozy
wherever they're from;
They feel like your family
Whenever they come.
Some people have many;
Most people have some.
Cousins are cosy
Wherever they're from.
MY UNCLE
My uncle has a twinkle in his eye, in his eye.
And every time he sees me he says "Hi", he says "Hi".
And every time he leaves me he says "Bye", he says"Bye".
With a winkle and a blinkle and a twinkle in his eye.
I'M
A
BOY
I'm a boy and I like being me. I wear jeans and climb trees,and jump high off a fence. With my cape I play Batman or King. With my patch I'm a pirate, as a cowboy I tote my gun. If I'm Ramjet I can flash my magic ring. I run faster, jump higher, shout louder, Than any old girl that I've seen. I'm a boy and I like being me!
I'M
A
GIRL
I'm a girl and I like being me. I wear petticoats, bracelets and shiny new shoes, and my hair done with ribbons and curls. I have dolls with real hair, and a crayon box too, and a cape to be queen that has pearls. I wear earrings or polish or high heeled shoes, or a crown of my mom's. I skip rope, rollerskate, play OLD MAID or GO FISH and I do them better than boys. I'm a girl and I like being me!
