Athletic Diabetics Type 1 Diabetics. I want to chat with Type 1 IDDM diabetics who are extremely athletic. Also if there are any Type 1 Diabetics that have had the disease for almost 30 years (since age 4 years old). And any diabetics that are professional/semi Pro musicians, rockstars, actors, entertainers. Defining: extreme athlete- meaning to be a professional, semi, or competitive athlete. Examples: marathon runner, swimmer or triathalete in recreational or professional competitions. Professional physical trainer, pro instructor such as a SCUBA instructor, swim instructor, physical education instructor, military or police personnel, fire & rescue department employee, rock climber, mountain hiker, basketball, baseball player in pro or semi pro status. Also any Type 1 Diabetics that are entertainment performers such as in music business with heavy touring schedule.

Research Study Volunteers

Allison Radcliffe is seeking people with Type I diabetes to take part in a research study to test how different methods of dealing with stress can improve the health and functioning of people with diabetes. Allison states, ÒAs anyone with diabetes knows, the combination of stressful life events and the demanding daily requirements of the disease can worsen diabetes, because it is influenced by stress.Ó

Who Am I

My name is Lauran Gangl-Plant. I am an Type 1 IDDM (Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus) since I went into a coma at the age of 4 years old. I am now 36 years old. Healthy and happy. I am an Olympiad athlete (figure skating in 1988 Winter Jr. Olympics for USA at age 14 (which I placed 14th too;-) and went onto becoming a competive platform and springboard diver and now a marathon swimmer, ocean lifeguard and SCUBA instructor. As you see- ANY form of water I enjoy! (I do snow skiing too;-)I have my own ocean water skills instruction business (and pool instruction).
