Your Mission: You are to take the field agent's exam at MI6. First up on the exam, you are to decipher cryptograms containing code from one of the Bond films or books. What are cryptograms?
A Cryptogram is a set of sentences written in a simple substitution code, where one letter of the alphabet is substituted for the correct letter. No letter stands for itself. The code is different for each cryptogram. For example:
BOND, JAMES BOND QSDM, NKCAF QSDM
There are many clues you can look for when breaking the code on a cryptogram. Single letters usually stand for "i" or "a". Common two-letter words are "of", "in", "is", "it", "at", "or", and "to." Three-letter words include: "the", "and", "are", and "for." Also look for common suffixes like "-ing", "-ed", "-tion", & "-able." Some of the most frequently used letters are: e, t, a, o, i, n, s, h, r , and d.
