Continuing our look at comic book stories edited by the great Stan Lee! Wild, Wild Women! What exactly are 1950's comic book women like? Somewhere in the public consciousness there is the image of comic women as generic "mother" types (Dennis the Menace's mom, for instance), as romantic heroines looking for a man, or as potential victims needing to be protected by a stronger hero. There are plenty of examples of these, but the comics are brimming over with examples to the contrary: I Was a Blonde Outcast: 10-page story drawn by Pete Tumlinson and written by an unknown scripter, from Girl Comics #5, 1951. Originally slated to appear in Cowboy Romances, this story has very little romance, but plenty of adventure, which suits it for the action-packed title, Girl Comics. Yes Sir, That's My Baby! 8-page story written and drawn by an unknown artist, from The Kellys #25, 1950. A pretty funny example of situation comedy from 50 years ago...I'm especially amused by the name of the family baby Back to Atlas Adventures & Timely Tales.
