Drinking Straw Day

It's
Drinking Straw Day!

The Story of the Straw

Wow! I had no idea there were so many things to do with drinking straws besides of course, sipping. I especially appreciate Mr. Marvin C. Stone's patent. I can't drink anything cold without a straw. Can you? I don't think Marvin Stone could either. It appears the notion for the drinking straw appealed to his gusto for mint juleps. You see, Marvin Stone was already an entrepreneur at Stone Industrial. He devised his straw idea based on the success of his paper cigarette holders manufacturing. On January 3, 1888 Marvin C. Stone received his patent. So, today we celebrate Dring Straw Day!

Okay, so what else can you do with a drinking straw, you ask? Well, there are those who devote a great amount of time rating them. There are those who have baskets of fun with food. You, on the other hand, can enjoy some Exploratorium Science Snacks. (fulfilling; for kids and teachers:) or design a detector...while blowing bubbles and bubble boats. How's that for bubble suspension? Whew! that's sounds like something out of Dr. Seuss:) Wait a second! What could drinking straws have to do with air pressure and wind vanes? If you were on the moon, do you think you would you be able to use a straw to drink a beverage? Enjoy drinking straw day:) Now, can anyone tell me the history of the Dixie Cup? How do you have fun cooking with them?

Fun sign from Gini's Rainbow and floating soap bubbles from Shirley's Cottage Row Graphic. Thanks! Louise:)
