ACORD HORSE SHOW ETIQUETTE FOR ALL RIDERS

MEETING ANOTHER HORSE: Meet left shoulder to left shoulder

SLOWER TRAFFIC INSIDE: Riders walking should be 12 to 24 feet off the rail if any other rider is trotting. Riders trotting should be 12 feet off the rail if any other rider is cantering.

ALL RIDERS WILL MAKE AN EFFORT TO RIDE IN THE SAME DIRECTION AS THE OTHER RIDERS.

PASSING ANOTHER HORSE: Rider passing on the rail should call "Rail" so that the horse being passed has ample opportunity to move to the inside off the rail.

If the Rider at the slower gait cannot be passed safetly, the faster-gait rider must slow, turn across the arena, or circle in a safe manner to avoid the slower rider.

IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE FASTER RIDER TO TACTFULLY AVOID THE SLOWER RIDER.

SPACING: At the trot and canter, Riders keep 10 horse lengths behind the horse in front, to allow safe changes of gait, turns and halts.

MOVEMENT OFF THE RAIL: Look behind you before any movement off the rail: a turn, circle, diagonal, etc.

RIDERS DO NOT HALT ON THE RAIL.

OUTSIDE THE ARENAS: Horses will walk only.

ENTERING/LEAVING ARENAS: Horses will walk only. It is the responsibility of the rider and horse entering or leaving to avoid riders using the arena.

AIDES: Are for safety only. They never interfere with the Rider and the Horse.
