![]() (This is for a half-day PreK program.) Morning Centers (45 min.)--I usually set out play dough (make your own, it lasts longer, and is cheaper!), puzzles (floor puzzles, table puzzles), various manipulatives and games (they usually go along with my theme of the week), and the students can look at books and play on the computer at this time. Circle Time (20 min.)--We do the weather, days of the week. Then we have some music time. I play records or we learn a new fingerplay daily. All of this coincides with the theme of the week. Center Time (30-45 min.)--Students choose a center (art, discovery table, computer, books, sensory table, dress-up/housekeeping, blocks, puppets, manipulatives, listening, woodworking). Make sure your centers are organized with activities the students can do independently for about 20 min. of time. When bell rings, students clean up and switch centers. They must choose a different center. Circle Time (20-30 min.) I usually choose a story or other theme related activity. Kindergarteners can definitely sit for a 30 min. time period (my four-year olds at this time of year are doing well with this!) Art Time (15 min.) Depending on the complexity, this activity could take longer. I like to do an art act. that relates to the theme. Prepare ahead! Snack Time (15 min.) Wash hands and then have a snack. Quiet Time (15 min.) Students get a carpet square and a book and "chill out" for a few minutes. Recess (30 min.) Go out to the playground. Have a structured activity or let the children work those gross motor skills on the bars! Pack up (5 min.) Rainbow Bag Time (15 min.) For a wonderful incentive, I created a drawstring bag out of rainbow material. One student a day gets to take the "rainbow bag" home and fill it with a favorite item (photos, book, toy, whatever they want). Stipulations--the item must fit inside the bag, and it can only be one thing! Go home! GRADUATION IDEAS: Here is a sample of our graduation program... Graduation March—“Pomp and Circumstance” “The Corner Grocery Store” “Mr. Sun” “Down By the Bay” “Sunshine Medley”
Distribution of Diplomas Recognitions Slide Show Picnic We have been doing the weather everyday since the beginning of the year. Most of the songs have something to do with the weather! The students have also learned sign language for the song "The World is a Rainbow!" During the "Recognitions" time, I will give the Room Mothers a gift for all of their hard work this year. I made each Room Mother an apron and embroidered "PreK Room Mother" on it with my new sewing/embroidery machine! Then, I used a fabric marker and wrote all of the children's names on the apron and put the year 1998-1999. During the "Slideshow" I will show a slideshow I produced using a digital camera and "Microsoft PowerPoint." I have taken pictures at different functions we've had throughout the year. The show is about ten minutes long. PRE-K THEMES: Here are some themes I used while teaching PreK...I will try to include a link to each one to give you some sample ideas!
