WELCOME TO DREWSNOTES,
THE WEBSITE THAT CONTAINS THE ONLY SUMMARIES OF A WALK
ACROSS AMERICA ANYWHERE ON THE INTERNET
Hello, and welcome to drewsnotes, a website devoted entirely to one book: Peter Jenkins’ A Walk Across America. This is a book that explains the author’s travels as he gave the U.S.A. another chance by walking across it. This fascinating story is one that every lover of America should have and read, and I myself enjoyed reading it. The following paragraph explains the story of why I made drewsnotes.
This book is given to graduating ninth graders at my school in Lower Moreland, PA as a summer project. I myself wasn’t too thrilled about getting it and would have given plenty for a study guide on the book, as would some of my friends. However, I was displeased to find that many reliable websites such as pinkmonkey.com, cliffsnotes.com, and sparknotes.com had nothing on this book. I e-mailed pinkmonkey.com to ask if they could make something on the book, but they said that my request was the first ever and just one wouldn’t do the trick. I then e-mailed Peter Jenkins and asked him why there are no study guides for A Walk Across America, and he said that he is surprised that there weren’t any but is glad that there aren’t any. After that, I figured that getting a study guide for the book would be impossible, but then I got the idea that I can make one, so I got started on this website as soon as summer vacation started. I read all the chapters in the book and made a summary for them as well as character descriptions. I planned to use these summaries and character descriptions to help me throughout the book and to also share them with my fellow classmates.
Drewsnotes.com is open to anyone, from Lower Moreland students who must read the book as a summer project to students from outside Lower Moreland to people just reading the book for pleasure. I hope that this website will help people understand the book and help students do projects with it. However, I must stress one very important thing, and that is that this web site is not meant to be used as a substitute to reading the book. Cliffs Notes creator Cliff Hillegass said, “A thorough appreciation of literature allows no short cuts,” and I believe the same. The best way to read the book is to read the book first and consult drewsnotes.com when necessary. However, I am aware that many teachers will try to put stuff on their tests that isn’t covered in these summaries, and I consider this cruel and unusual punishment towards a pupil and will not allow it to be done with this website. To keep people from suffering this fate I am allowing all students to e-mail me at Andrewis@aol.com and tell me the question and, if possible, the answer that was on the quiz or test on the book. I will be more than happy to put that in the summaries so other students don’t suffer the same fate as you did. This doesn’t mean that I will just give test answers; it only means that the stuff that the question is referring to will be put in the summaries by me. The goal and intention of my website is to help students, Lower Moreland High School ones in particular, read and understand A Walk Across America.
I am just a novice at websites and this is my first one ever. In 2001-2002 I will be a sophomore in high school and I plan to take a Web Site Design course in twelfth grade. After taking that course I will try to make this website better. I will try to keep making improvements to this website as long as I live, making sure that it is the best ever. I hope that this website stays on the Internet forever, so tell your grandchildren about it! Good luck using my website.
