Genealogy

The Genealogy Committee is abstracting Court Order Book 8, the 1860 census, and early tithables of Chesterfield. The Committee is collecting family history - ancestral charts with family group sheets for the file as well as obituary notices and other newspaper articles. Charts and any copies of documents submitted should have your name and address written on each page.  The library now has a computer and indexes for various types of records are being compiled.

Query: Elizabeth D. Bickford write: I have been doing some research on the origins of the name "Iron Bridge" road in Chesterfield County. Does anyone know the date that Route 10 became known as Iron Bridge Road (or an approximate time). I think it was probably very early, and have begun searching through the Clerk of Court's records, but would like to narrow my search. Please contact me with any information via my e-mail address, edrsbick@widomaker.com

TIP:  When writing to a genealogy library, courthouse, relative, please keep your letter simple.  Ask for one or two items only.  After you receive a response, follow up with an additional letter.  You will get better results using this technique than writing a rambling letter and asking for everything on a surname.
