ATTENTION VISITORS

I received an email yesterday from AOL saying that they were sorry to inform me that
on Oct. 31, 2008, AOL® Hometown and FTP will be shut down permanently. They
sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. In other words they aren't
making any money serving their customers so they are going to screw us again.

For 10 years I have had all my pages, including my AWWP ezine on AOL. As of the
30th they will all disappear. I am now looking for a new server that I can load my
pages to and resume AWWP from. If it is in my budget I am going to acquire anphog.com
or anphog.org but will still need to pay someone to use their server or buy one of my own.

The last AWWP will go out on October 26th but I will save my email list and I will be back.
Any of you who want to be put on my mailing list so you know when my pages
have returned click the link below and send me an email.
I appreciate all who visit my pages.

Meerkats

Meerkats live in southern part of Africa dominated by the Kalahari desert.

Meerkats are a type of Mongoose. The English translation is marsh cat, although
Meerkats don't live near marshes and they are not cats.

A Meerkat community is called a mob or gang, and can number up to 40.

An alpha male and alpha female rule the group and are the
only ones aloud to mate.

They live in burrows, which are complex tunnel systems consisting of
mounds, access holes, and tunnels leading to numerous sleeping chambers.

There are up to 70 different entrances to the burrow system that
also serve as an exits in case of danger from within.

The males and females share equally in sentry duty
w
atching over the gang to spot danger.

The sentries can be seen standing on the ground

or sitting in a tree or bush.

The babysitter who, like the sentry can be male or female, stays
with the pups while the gang is out foraging for food.

The cobra sometimes threatens Meerkat young. Meerkats will mob a cobra
relentlessly if it tries to enter their burrow. They are agile enough to avoid a
snakes strike and even have the ability to kill a cobra.

They can breed every two months but tend to breed two to three
times a year depending on food abundance.

They love wrestling, playing with, and grooming each another.

Meerkats reach sexual maturity at 10 months, and reach adulthood at 11 months.

At adulthood Meerkats will be a standing height of
around 12 inches and weigh around 2 lbs.

Their territory consists of an area about one to three square miles.

The Meerkat spends most of its time looking for food.

Their diet consists of ants, ant eggs, millipedes,
small beetles, lizards, insect larvae, and scorpions.

Meerkats constantly communicate with the rest of the gang in three
different ways: scent, sound, and body language.

They have over 20 different calls which have different meanings like: lost calls, alarm
calls, leading the group calls, pup feeding calls, guarding calls, and foraging calls.

A Meerkat has excellent vision. They have a dark band around their eyes, which
reduces any glare from the sun. As a result, Meerkats have the ability to see
a predatory bird even if they are looking directly into the sun.

I also have a list that I send new photos, old photos, and recent
adventures. I started it a year ago with 5 friends and it has grown
to over 500 friends all over the world. Here are the last four sends.
Check them out.
