Using keyboards in data entry is one of the major problems encountered when building databases. This traditional mechanical process is costly, time consuming and lacks accuracy. For these reasons, Sakhr has released two different versions of the new Multilingual OCR 4.0, the Advanced Version and the Office Version. The Advanced Version of the OCR combines two main technologies in one program: Omni Technology which depends on highly advanced research in the field of Artificial Intelligence to facilitate character recognition without training; and the Training Technology which increases accuracy of character recognition.

A major improvement, the OCR incorporated Sakhr research on computational linguistics. It has demonstrated high efficiency in recognizing texts by identifying grammar while doing optical character recognition. This feature increases the quality of non-qualified documents to 98% without training and 99% with training, and fair-quality documents to 99% without training and 99.8% with training for not more than 10 minutes at a speed of 330 letters per second. The program also includes a bilingual spell check.

The OCR can identify more than one language through Xerox TextBridge technology, one of the most popular OCR programs. The Advanced Version of the OCR is supported by Persian and ten European languages (Danish, Finish, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, Austrian and Swedish). The program can also identify both Arabic and English characters on the same page.

The OCR can distinguish between 26 true types of Arabic fonts. The Advanced version of the program is designed to enable the user scan large amounts of documents, save them as graphic files and classify them to be recognized later to save time. The program recognizes graphics and puts them in their proper place on the page. The program also saves page format without any modification to tables, columns or graphics.

It can also identify diacritics and keep or remove them according to the user's choice.It is worth mentioning that the program is supported by a step-by-step Automatic Guide to help the user. The output can be saved to disk for use in a variety of applications such as word processing. The program is compatible with many programs such as DDE or OLE automation.

The Office Version of the OCR is now available for all categories of users, who will be provided with many utilities to meet the needs of any office with its Multilingual (Arabic/English) Omni Technology feature which saves the page format without any modification to tables, columns or graphics.
The Advanced Version and the Office Version of the OCR are compatible with the Arabic or any European edition of Microsoft Office 95.
