"Just Another Cwazy
Cellar Dweller"!

"It's getting to be that "time of the year"...

You'll notice a new photo of "moi" below, the reason?  For Christmas I got permission from the railroad superintendent (my wife) to build a full scale railroad station on the wall leading into the train room...  you can see the layout through the door on the left side of the photo.  I got the idea from Gary Frost, a Syracuse N.Y. modeler who did it so well I thought it was time to "borrow" his idea!

I'll be working ALOT on the layout in preparation for the NER regional meet in Portland, Maine this coming May 17th weekend.  Myself, along with my usual crew of Mike Tylick & Earl Smallshaw will be giving clinics, I'll be hosting layout tours, and also open "Bar Mills Scale Models" for those of you who would like to pay a visit to the world's smallest manufacturer!  This site is due for a major upgrade, and it should happen in the spring.  I also have a commitment to build an HOn30 module for the Narrow Gauge  Convention in Rhode Island in the fall... that should be really cool.  Take a trip up to Maine for the convention if you can, it's a wonderful place (and there's plenty to keep the wives busy!).

and.. By The Way... although the photos are somewhat dated, the N&PC wil be the featured cover story in the May issue of Model Railroader....  hmmm... a convention & open house, the MR cover... and owning Bar Mills Scale Models...  I LOVE THIS HOBBY !

LOOKING AT DIGITAL
There's a place for it in Model Railroad Photography

These photos were taken with my Nikon 990 digital... I haven't gotten the hang of it yet... but it'll have to do.  (It's me, not the camera!)

WORTH MENTIONING AGAIN IS THE MAY 2002 ISSUE OF MODEL RAILROADER.  THE "NIAGARA & PEARL CREEK" HAS BEEN HONORED AS THE "COVER STORY" FOR THE ISSUE.  THE PICTURES ARE OKAY, AND THE TRACKPLAN IS GREAT... I DON'T KNOW HOW THEY DO IT !  IT'S NICE TO BE A PART OF SUCH A GREAT HOBBY.

THIS IS A CRAFTMAN KIT by "Republic Locomotive Works".  These kits are not for the faint of heart... but I've got to admit it, the charm of the kit is undeniable.  The water is Envirotex that I stippled as it was drying.  The real "big news" here was the resin fishing boast (or trawler, or whatever you call it)... I can't remember the manufacturer, but is a new fellow from New Hampshire and is available from Neal's N-Gauging Trains.  Sorry "HO" guys, this kit is available only in "N-Scale" at this point, it goes for about $25.

This slightly out-of-focus photo none-the-less captures the feeling I wnated to have in the sleepy village of Old Port.
It reminds me of a place I'd like to spend an afternoon (with camera in hand!)
I doctored-up the foreground (water) of this scene so it would fill the frame of the photo.  I don't rely on digital enhancement, so I'm not very good at it, but the rest of the scene (including the sky) is real.  No trains were set-up for the photo, it's more of a documentary shot.
I like modeling water.  That nifty little bouy is made by Sylvan Scale Models, in Canada!  The shed is by American Model Builders.

I use to refer to this as the "bridge from hell".  Sometimes I just want to get a project finished... done... kaput!  But this beautiful structure by N-Scale Architect is certainly not the quick fix I was hoping it would be.  The results are wonderful, and I'm damned proud that I finished the thing.  If you are a "craftsman" type modeler with time on your hands and unending patience... go for it.  Otherwise, take a look at the photo and enjoy the view!
