Road/Ferry
It is possible to drive
to our gite by autoroute (motorway) in 9 (The
A.A.) hours from Calais. We are 10 minutes away from two motorway exits.You can obtain reduced ferry fares by booking
early with P&O Ferries and see other current offers at
www.poferries.com. Or www.ferrysavers.com claim to offer you the best
price. You can get a free route map from the AA..
Air
You can fly from Stanstead and Luton to Nimes (about 20 miles away) with Ryanair
(www.ryanair.com) at cheap prices. It
is possible obtain a hired car at Nimes airport, Hertz operate there. You can book the
car through the Rynair website or go direct to
Hertz (www.hertz.com), which is their american site; you transfer to europe, then France. Easyjet(www.easyjet.com) fly from Gatwick to Marseille (about
50 miles away), there are several car hire firms operating there. Flybe (www.flybe.com)
operates Southampton to Avignon (6 miles) May to October. Thomsomfly
(www.thomsonfly.com) operates: Bournemouth, Doncaster/Sheffield
and Coventry to Lyons (2 hours by car).
Train
From July 2002 the S.NC.F.( French Railways) will be operating a Eurostar (Eurostar.com)service
non-stop from London to Avignon. The journey will take about six hours and
initially the service will only operate on Saturdays, only during the
summer. You can travel by high speed train from Paris or Paris Charles de
Gaulle airport to Avignon in less than 3 hours (www.tgv.com).
There are car hire facilities at Avignon station, it is always best to book in advance.
