People and Places in Astronomy - 2001
In this page you will find our pictures of people and places
related to astronomy taken in 2001.

Taking pictures of sunspots with the Orion Explorer 90mm refractor at the
Astronomy Day 2001at the Boston Museum of
Science.
You can see one of these pictures on the "My
Sunspot Observations" page.
We took the pictures below during our visits to
Gerry Dyck in Assonet, MA in August and November 2001. His two observatories,
the "Merry-Go-Round" and the roll-off roof one are very inspiring to and dream
of every amateur astronomer.

Gerry Dyck and his "Merry-Go-Round" observatory.

Two views from the inside the "Merry-Go-Round", showing Gerry's 17.5" reflector
and the handle that turns the whole observatory on very large gear drives.

Making solar observations with an H-alpha filter at the roll-off-roof
observatory.
You can read Gerry's astronomical background and his current work at
this link on the AAVSO's
Member Profiles and Web
Pages page.
And this is Sophie Dyck making solar observations at the 4" refractor!

and owner Mike Brooks. Unfortunately, SkyTent® has now
gone out of business.

Panoramic views of Stellafane 2001.

A very joyful group picture at the
90th Annual Meeting of the AAVSO in Somerville, MA in November 2001
(people were enjoying the way I was taking the picture!).
