Meteors

Perseid Meteor - Tuesday 12 August 2008: 00:15h BST (01:15h UT)

Managed to get a really stable clear period when I was able to squeeze off lots of 30sec exposures with my Canon 400D linked to a laptop  with software which allowed remote control of the camera operation.  This allowed me to observe the sky at my leisure while at the same time give me a better chance of capturing a decent image - which I did!!  The camera was left pointing to a wide field area of the sky  centred between Cassipopeia and the Andromeda Galaxy (M31).

Perseid Meteor - Sunday 12 August 2007: 23:50h BST

Clouds, clouds, clouds !!!  This is the only image I managed to get of a small Perseid meteor - although it is quite colourful.  It is passing through Andromeda heading towards M31 (which you can see on the extreme centre right of the frame).  The orangey-red patches are clouds reflecting the local light pollution.  Had to pack it in at 2am BST as it was spitting with rain - typical !!!

Camera settings: Canon EOS 400D, 30sec, f/4.2, ISO 1600, fl=18mm
