Welcome
to the Alaskan Adventures of Gary Ricketts!
Gary Ricketts is currently working with many small
Alaskan villages with the goal of improving the quality of life of their residents, and
increasing public awareness of this beautiful state and its many wonders.
"Basically
I help the villages to help themselves...as I say, 'I am the arms and legs, and the tribe
is the brains and vision.' It is an empowerment process which I truly believe in, in which
we replace despair with hope...am very fortunate to have found my purpose in life and be
able to live it."

In my travels I have
been fortunate enough to capture some of the beauty of Alaska on film. Click this photo to
visit my photo galleries. They are arranged by region, along with a special page for
Mt. McKinley. |

I am from a family of seven
kids and two loving parents - my mother is Athabascan Indian, raised in Holy Cross on the
banks of the Lower Yukon River) and my dad is a "heinz 57", with our family
ancestry coming from Wales. I have a very large extended family in Alaska and the
Northwest. Click this photo to view photos of myself, my home and
family. |

This is me
outside the village of Venetie's tribal office, standing there in -45 degree weather.
I work with Indian tribes throughout Alaska and the 'lower 48'. Click this photo to
learn more about me and what I do. |

The
Alaska state flag was designed by John Bell (Benny) Benson, a thirteen year-old in an
orphanage in response to a contest sponsored by the Alaska Department of the American
Legion. The prize was awarded in 1927. The flag was adopted by the Territorial Legislature
in May, 1927 as Alaska's official flag. It is dark blue, with eight gold stars in
the shape of the constellation Ursa Major and a larger star representing the pole star,
Polaris. Benny also picked the forget-me-not as the territorial (later state)
flower. |
