We Kindly Present:

Those Swingin' Puritans

Updated

March 30, 2001

One of the great inaccuracies of the ill-informed is that the Puritans were nothing but stuffy, closed-minded religious zealots. But in truth, nothing could be further from the truth. The following links are presented to introduce you to these committed Christians who loved Jesus Christ, valued the life of the mind, pursued holiness vigorously and relished Christian Liberty. Observe these words of J.I. Packer,

"informed folk now acknowledge that the typical Puritans were not wild men, fierce and freaky, religious fanatics and social extremists, but sober, conscientious, and cultured citizens: persons of principle, devoted, determined, and disciplined, excelling in the domestic virtues and with no obvious shortcomings save a tendency to run to words when saying anything important, whether to God or to man." (Quest for Godliness, p. 22)

I hope that you will be blessed as you rediscover the truth of who the Puritans were, the beauty of what they believed and the glory of Who they knew and loved.
