About this Page
Perhaps you're wondering about the internet history of the Mysteries of Life and how I came to seize power in this strange new medium. Indeed, perhaps you're wondering just who the heck I am. Well, that's what I'm here to tell you... The first Mysteries of Life page was created and maintained by Vicky (or "Vicster" as she was occasionally known) on her Michigan University student web page. Well, she must have graduated because one day it sort of vanished, alas taking all her glorious, well-designed and researched information with it. (What few scraps of decent information and pictures I have on this page were entirely cribbed from her page.) Indeed, this page still links to the original Mysteries of Life guest book, highlighting years of fan debate and general fawning. I started this page on February 6, 2000, sensing the void created by the demise of Vicky's site and trying to fill it. (Actually, I've been meaning to do a Vulgar Boatmen site for a long time now to supplement Josette's fine, but rarely-updated unofficial site, but since that site still exists, while the Mysteries page does not, this seemed like the thing to start with.) (Note to readers: this is the bit where it starts being all about me and my ego and has nothing to do with the band, so you can safely stop reading now if you so choose...) As far as who I am, my name is Michael Anderson and have been a Mysteries fan ever since Josette (of unofficial boatmen page fame) turned me on to their music back in 1996. Since then, I have made only good connections to other people through their music, from the super-nice musical group Bunnygrunt (who ended up writing and recording a song for my short film "Network One" for *free* even after I had offered to pay them) to #1 Mysteries fan Tom Danforth, (who joined me in countless massively fun musical road-trips, traipsing across the Midwest to see shows by the Mysteries of Life, Vulgar Boatmen, Silos, Mary Janes, Prissteens, Gillian Welch and many others...) Anywho, brief life story: I majored in film, proceeded into a short-lived career as a children's radio DJ (the station got sold literally the week after I arrived), and currently live in New York, where I hope to someday "make it big" as a writer/director. And, as they say, if you can make it here...you know the rest. (Speaking of which, are you in a band and need a director who works cheap for your latest video? Or are you fabulously wealthy and think financing an indie film would be just super? Then for God's sake e-mail me!!!) In between media jobs, I do some internet work (obviously not web design, as this page is ample proof), do some gigging as an accordionist (including a few memorable shows guesting with the Mary Janes) and generally try to enjoy life. You can visit the web-page of my radio show, the late, lamented Wonder Show here. If you have any comments, questions, Mysteries of Life information, job offers, love letters, trivia questions, basketball statistics, epic poems, manifestos, and/or unqualified praises, please e-mail me at AutoBeatnik@aol.com. Oh, and no spam, please, we're British! (Okay, not really-- I'm from Missouri-- but you get the idea).
