What's New?

April 15, 2006:  Added some long overdue News.

November 7, 2005:  News of the new album in (appropriately enough) the News section.  Also, wither the Myseries?

July 5, 2005: There's a new website dedicated to Indiana and Illinois music in town: Musical Family Tree. Read all about it in the News section.

January 29, 2004:  A very rare Valentine's Day concert is coming up for the Mysteries of Life!  Details in the Shows section...

July 21, 2003:  Has it really been a year and a half since the last update?  How times flies...  Rumblings about the new CD in the News section.

December 8, 2001:  It's a new live show!

December 1, 2001: Okay, it's been a while since the last update because I just spent two months in moving purgatory with all my computer equipment in storage somewhere in mid-Manhattan. But, I'm now thoroughly moved-in, the computer is back on-line, and I'm ready to finally get going on the huge back-log of updates! Yes, there's new news, a new show date, a new CD, a new link...just tons of stuff really. Check them out!

September 30, 2001: New tour date, celebrating the new Mysteries of Life CD "Distant Relative." See also the News page!

May 1, 2001:  Jake just e-mailed some exciting News about the record label that will be carrying the new album (and reportedly some future Vulgar Boatmen re-releases...)

January 19, 2001: More News from Jake about the new album.  Also, Chicago fans, be sure to check out the Vulgar Boatmen at Schubas next Saturday, January 27!!

January 9, 2001:  Big News from Jake about the new album, plus an update on Dale Lawrence's Hoosier Hysteria Road Trip book!

December 4, 2000:  After an even longer break, here's the big site update you've all been waiting for!  First, I added a blurb to the News page about Dale Lawrence's book (and a plug for the upcoming Gizmos show-- check it out!)  Second, I added some lyrics for the Vulgar Boatmen's rare, never-released in the States third LP, Opposite Sex.  And third, I have belatedly added the official Juliana Hatfield site to the official links page.  Oh, and happy holidays everyone!!

September 20,2000:  After a long break, new News has come to light!  Also note the updated tour date!

June 28, 2000:  News from Jake Smith himself regarding the state of the Mysteries of Life in general (and their upcoming album in particular).  Also added an upcoming show at the Bloomington Borders to the tour section.

May 26, 2000:  Vast update this time!  Jake Smith takes a cold, hard look at backwards masking in the News section.  Plus, the Mysteries are playing their first gig in....well, far too long at any rate.  You can read about the details in the tour date section.  And, if that wasn't enough, I also added a link to the Gentle Readers website (another one of these bands tangentially related to the Mysteries.)  With much thanks to Rob Westcott of the Mary Janes site for all the info!

May 10, 2000:  Shameless self-promotion on the News page, advertising my streaming internet radio station OPEN SKIES (which regularly plays the Mysteries, the Boatmen, the Mary Janes and other related bands) on www.live365.com.

Aptil 8, 2000:  Brief update on Dale Lawrence's book in the News section.

March 18, 2000:  More corrections and additions to the discography page, including the covers to all the singles.  Also added the very first band photo taken from the Kira 7" single.  And how about the cool new background?  All new images and corrections thanks to Vicky (the former webmistress of the MOL site)!

February 27, 2000:  Big, big, big site update!  Added Steve Hammer's feature article on "Come Clean"'s release to the Mysteries' articles page, added a new lyrics section (with much thanks to Julie who did the transcribing), added images of "Focus on the Background" and "Anonymous Tip" to the discography page, and if that wasn't enough, there's a secret addition to the Boatmen page.  Stay tuned, more is yet to come...

February 11, 2000: Made a few more corrections to the discography page (now 94.3% error-free!) and added links to the Official Blake Babies and Flat Earth Records websites.

February 10, 2000: Corrected a few of the more blatant errors and omissions on the discography page.  (With thanks to Rob Westcott from the Mary Janes webpage.)  Also failed in my first attempt to become a contestant on "Who Wants to Be a Millionare."  (Stupid geography questions!)

February 6, 2000:  This whole, gosh-darned page, that's what!!!  It's all so unbelievably new!  So tell your friends, neighbors, and local city councilmen.  The Mysteries of Life have a new home on the internet!  Admittedly, it's not much to look at right now, the furniture hasn't arrived yet, and the floor could use a good wax'n'shine, but I'm just happy to be here.  (And doubly happy that you're here, too.)
