The Poluvirica

...From Belozersk District

Some peasants were staying in a camp in a deserted place and every night after they went to bed, a Poluvirica would come into camp for her dinner. Knowing that something was amiss, the peasants kept the hearthfire, covered by a stone slab, lit and lay down pretending to sleep.

After a while they saw her, naked with loose hair, carrying a baby. She came into camp and sat on the stone slab burning her behind. She ran howling out of camp and never returned.
