WHAT IS PATCH TRADING?

Patch Trading is a trade with other troops or councils in other U.S. states and other countries. You send them one of your council patches with a bit of information about your troop.

This is a way for the girl scouts in the troop to learn about their counterparts in other places.

It is also a good thing to share on International Day. Sharing the patches and information about other girls in troops is a great learning experience.

ORGANIZING AND DISPLAYING PATCHES

* Pinpoint each city on a large map
*Create a quilt that shows the patches
*Make a booklet with a page on each state and put the patches on that page
*Leader sews them on her warm-up jacket
*Make a Index Card box and alphabetize by State/Country. Place each patch on a card with a description of the council.

SWAPS

Some troops like to exhange SWAPS. These are small inexpensive items that the girls have made as crafts, that are swapped with another troop of equal size.

For example, one troop makes 10 friendship pins to send to another troop in Georgia, that sends 12 Fuzzy pencil toppers back in exchange.

This is a fun way to meet troops in other places and get new ideas for small crafts. It is nice if the swap that you make somehow represents the area that you are from (if possible).

MASCOT HOSTING

The troop chooses a mascot that represents an animal from their area of the state. I.E. We're from Tucson, Arizona and an animal that is indegenous to the desert here is a Coyote. So our mascot would be a coyote and the girls would name her .

This is a long term project, because your mascot will travel around the country visiting other hosting troops.

It works this way:
Throught the internet, you find other troops who are willing to host your Mascot for a month. Then just like in any other travel planning, you map out his/her itenarary.
