Cartoon Studio
and Virtual Springfield software

The Simpsons Cartoon Studio
"The Simpsons Cartoon Studio" software from Fox Interactive.

Reviews: Software for the personal computer
Creating your own Simpsons episodes is no longer a matter of fantasy -- or waiting until you've gotten your degree from Harvard so you can join the show's writing staff. No, now you can make slick-looking animation on your personal computer (Macintosh or Windows) using "The Simpsons Cartoon Studio." With a few clicks of the mouse, you can add, rearrange and remove elements, including music and sound effects. The software also includes more than 10,000 cels of hand-drawn character animation. When you're finished, you can save your Simpsons cartoon short and send it to friends, even if they don't have the "The Simpsons Cartoon Studio" installed. It does take a little while to master this software, but anyone ages 6 and older should find hours of fun here.

"Virtual Springfield" is truly a gem. Years in the making, this software for Windows and Power Mac computers takes Simpsons fans into a virtual-reality tour of Springfield -- from Moe's Tavern to Krustylu Studios. A particular hoot is the Simpsons home, where you can read Homer's mail or thumb through the family's photo album. This is an engaging 3D animated universe that will consume hours of your time exploring more than 50 interactive locations, many with animated sequences featuring Simpsons characters and original cast voices. A bit of animated violence and a couple of suggestive moments prompted Fox to give this software an advisory rating of 13-plus. But any parent who lets their kids watch "The Simpsons" should have no objections to the content here. See a Virtual Springfield press release for more information.
