September 21, 2000
Picked up car from the used car lot. The next day we headed for Florida on our vacation. Cost: $2500

October 4, 2000
Picked up some VW floor mats from the local VW dealer. Cost: $70

Spent most of the day installing a new stereo system from Crutchfield. It consists of a Blaupunkt Nevada CD with Rockford Fosgate 4x6 front speakers, Pioneer 12" Sub, Q-logic enclosure, and a Blaupunkt MPA-400 3 channel amp. I feel like I am 17 again. Cost: $600

October 15, 2000
Installed new spark plugs, air-fuel-oil filters, and changed the oil. Topped off the brake fluid. Also gave the car it's first basic cleaning. No real problems found. Cost: $25

December, 2000
Found replacement glove box cover on eBay and installed. Cost: $45

January, 2001
Bought new tires from TireRack.com and stock 14" VW alloy wheels from user on eBay. Cost: $350

February, 2001
Installed stock 14 x 6 alloy wheels and new P195-60R14 tires. Had front end alignment checked. Total cost: $60

February, 2001
Had the same local shop (above) do the recommended repairs; CV boots (right), steering rack boots (all), motor mount (right), front brake pads, new rotors for front brakes, and a new clutch cable. The car drives 30% better after these repairs (a lot less shaking, easier shifting). Cost: $620

March 11, 2001
Installed new front license plate bracket from VW dealer. Removed chrome trim from around front grill. Blacked out side chrome with pin-striping tape. Painted door handle inserts black (will need to repaint as "textured" paint was not as advertised). Cleaned and detailed car. Cost: $28
