Houska
- 2/3c warm milk
- 1/2c plus 3 tbl. Margarine or butter
- 1/2c plus 1/2tea sugar
- 5c sifted flour
- 2tea. Salt
- 2tea. Vanilla
- 2tea. Mace
- 2 eggs plus 1 yolk well beaten
- 1/2c raisins
- 1/2c luke warm water
- 1oz yeast or 1 package dry yeast
Mix one-half teaspoon sugar and yeast in warm water. Let rise. Cream margarine with one-half cup sugar. Add salt, vanilla, mace, and eggs. Add 2 cups flour alternately with milk. Add yeast mixture with rest of flour. Add raisins. Mix thoroughly. Let rise 1 hour. Knead on floured board two-min. put back in greased bowl and let rise 1 hour. Divide in three parts and braid. Put in greased pan and let rise 1 hour. Bake 45min. in 350° oven.
This is Bohemian type raisin bread. It's not overly sweet and very good toasted or just buttered.
