I am trying to trace family history, and have been following various "cybertrails". I have traced the history of the family back to a full blood Mic Mac, named Louisa Stevens, who moved to Newfoundland, Canada around 1863-1866 and married a Newfoundlander in 1866 at a place called "Sop's Island". We believe she may have come from either Nova Scotia or the Province of Quebec. If you can provide me with any information or reference where I may be able to find
more informatio, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Visiting your seb site has renewed my interest in searching my Native American roots. I was about to give up. All I had to go on was a story from my deceased father about Native American ancestors, but none of the surviving old timers are willing to talk. Then I hit a dead end in my research efforts. The information I've discovered in this web site is very stimulating and suggests new avenues to search. Thanks.

My GG Grandfather, John CLANTON, was a full blood Cherokee, born 1810 on Chicken Creek, in McMinn County, TN. He moved to Cherokee County, AL where he died. His spouse and children moved to Newton County, MO in about 1860. He, nor any of his descendants have never been registered in the Cherokee Nation and I have given up ever being registered, but I am proud of the Cherokee Nation and its people.

I will the words of Tecumseh -

"So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about their religion; respect others in their view, and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people. Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide. Always give a word or a sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend, even a stranger, when in a lonely place. Show respect to all people and grovel to none. When you arise in the morning give thanks for the food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies only in yourself. Abuse no one and nothing, for abuse turns the wise ones to fools and robs the spirit of its vision. When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home."

Anna Baldridge, 1798, came with Ar-sto-lar-toh (Wm. Baldridge), Gar-sto-chum-lar-toh, and Jane (Jennie)from Springplace, GA, with the Moravians to Maysville, Arkansas. They later settled at Oaks, in Oklahoma. Jane married John S. Ward, and they were the parents of 5 or 6 girls and two boys. One of the girls, Susie Ward, is my g-g-grandmother, and I look just like her, I think! John S. Ward also is part Cherokee through Catherine McDaniel. (Susie's sisters married Rileys, Holts, and Bumgarners, also of Cherokee ancestry.) Annie and all Jane's children are buried at Bryan's Chapel Cemetery near Salina (Mayes County), Oklahoma. Susie's son, my g-grandfather, Walter Gwartney, is enrolled on the Dawe's Roll as 1/16th blood, but he is at least 1/8th. We do not know why the discrepancy, except we think they wanted the Indian lands but they also wanted to "be" white. (He was only 4, but he and his four living sisters received land (their mother Susie had died in childbirth at age 33, and their father had remarried another woman--also named Susie--who is also buried at Bryan's Chapel.)

I am searching for the family history of my children's paternal grandfathers. The most that I can find out fron their grandfather is that they are of Sioux descent, possibly Pine Ridge. Their paternal grandfathers mother was supposedly full blood Sioux. Her maiden name was Bessie Blue Sky Wilder. The family was apparantly ashamed of their native blood, so not much more than that is available. Any help you can give me on how to research this for the children would be greatly appreciated. I am sooooo new to the WWW and I need help :).
