This website will soon be updated with this Seasons's Fixtures, and a full set of rules for the various competitions

The main changes concern the League, which for the first time since it began in 1996, will be split into 2 Divisions.

First Division: Metro, London Sports, Birmingham, Welsh Dragons and Leeds

Second Division: Worcester, RNC, Lancashire, and Eastern Vipers

One team will be relegated and promoted at the end of the season

League matches, which previously operated like a one innings Test Match, will not be limited overs. The match will consist of 60 overs, with the team batting first, forced to declare after 40 overs

Knock Out Cup Final - September 2nd

Welsh Dragons beat Metro by 8 wickets

Luckily the weather did not play a major part in this year's Cup Final apart from a few small interuptions. Dragons won the toss and put Metro in to bat. Metro made a steady start but began to lose wickets when trying to up the run rate in the second half of the innings. With 9 wickets down, they made 152 from 34 overs. Andy McKeating 30, Adam Benjamin 20, Bryn Reynolds 16. Bryn and Adam putting on over 50 for the second wicket.

Welsh Dragons made a solid start with Dave Wood and Neil Prior, followed by Mike Fergusson and reached the target fairly comfortably with a number of overs to spare.

The ScoreCard should be online soon.

September 1st

Tomorrow sees the Knock Out Cup Final played at Lord's with Welsh Dragons reaching the Final for the first time, against Metro who are in their 5th consecutive Cup Final.

It's always an enjoyable and memorable experience to play our Cup Final at Lord's. And over the years there have been some exciting and close Blind Cricket Cup Finals, and most Blind Cricket Teams have been lucky enough to experience playing at Lord's at least once since the first Lord's Final in 1993.

The first ever Blind Cricket Cup Final was played in 1979.

STATTO'S BIG MATCH PREVIEW

Unfortunately the forecast for tomorrow is for showers, apart from Dave Wood, who will probably go straight to the bar after the match. If the game isn't affected by rain, I would expect it to be a high scoring match. Both teams have top quality batsman and both teams have about half a dozen players who've represented England Blind Cricket on either the India or Australia Tour. A big blow for Metro is that Heindrich Swanepoel will not be playing who consistently keeps runs down and takes wickets. Welsh Dragons have strength in depth and I would expect Mike Fergusson to figure as one of their top scorers. However, Metro have some key run scorers and I would expect Adam Benjamin to get big runs if Metro are going to be effective. Tim Guttridge could also get Metro off to a flying start with his free scoring stroke play.

So I suppose you want me to put my money where my mouth is then ? Well, I might actually do this tomorrow with a few side bets or spread bets. The England Coach has offered me double or quits on the curry he owes me for bowling him out in Australia.

I'll go for a Welsh Dragons win, but not easily and the side batting second will have a big advantage and should win particularly if the side batting first rails to reach 150 from their 35 overs.

For batting first, the spread will be something like Welsh Dragons 156 - 165, and Metro 141 - 150.

And if the game is severely rain affected, well anything could happen.

Metro recently lost their first ever League match in 5 years. They were beaten by 5 wickets by Birmingham. Both teams finish first and second in the League respectively with a 5 point gap separating them. Welsh Dragons' maximum points win against London Sports sees them likely to finish third if they take at least 5 points from their remaining game against Worcester.

August 10th

Birmingham have one game left to take just 1 point to finish in 2nd above White Rose. But Welsh Dragons, although currently 2nd from bottom, could overtake a cluster of mid table clubs in their final 2 games.

Who plays Blind Cricket ?

Blind Cricket is played by totally blind and partially sighted people and there are 10 Clubs across England and Wales who play in league and cup competitions. The Blind Cricket Cup Final is played at Lord's every season. This Year's Cup Final will be on Saturday 7th August.

What is Blind Cricket ?

Each team consists of at least 4 totally blind players, with the remainder being partially sighted. The ball is bigger than a standard cricket ball - a size 3 football is used, with ball bearings inside to make it rattle so that it can be heard as well as seen. Totally blind players can catch somebody out one bounce, and the ball must bounce twice to them when they are batting. But apart from that, the rules of blind cricket are pretty much the same as those for 'normal' cricket.
