1998 Line

Here are some surprises from the 1998 line--shots you may not have seen before:

Champagne Supper -- what the bodice of the dress looks like under the one-button jacket; there is also a yellow tulle slip and a yellow satin purse.

Midnight Gamble -- the back of the jacket is also fully beaded; truly elegant.

Covent Garden -- a closer look with and without velvet cape; note the large velvet bow on the back of the dress.

Note the fabulous kick pleats on the back of Hello Hollywood Hello! and how well-fitted the jacket is.

Warmest Wishes -- a closer look; note the nutcracker present (an authentic FAO symbol from the 1940s); the dress is a close fitting knit sheath with 2 hip pockets trimmed with gold "buttons"; note the teal scarf and gold brooch.

Smart Set -- the hat is a full cap with turned-up brim of a soft black felt with a felt feather; construction is similar to White Hyacinth hat but the result is much nicer.

Love After Hours -- a classic dress with a Dior-style skirt

Hi-Fi -- terrific elastic cord straps on the shoes and a very nice sweater jacket; there IS a "vinyl" record inside that record jacket.

Daughter of the Nile -- Linda Masterson says she has seen the quality control dolls and that the beading is every bit as intricate as on the prototype! The back of the dress is as fully beaded as the front. The bodice has gold fabric straps and the pleated chiffon robe is a separate overdress with beaded, jeweled ties. Her hair features 2 gold-wrapped braids and a beaded circlet.

Ransom in Red -- simple but is quite striking in person; a great shade of red (very Revlon).

On the Avenue -- I believe this is the actual doll, not the prototype, because the fabric is puffy on the hips, does not drape as well as the original photos showed, and does not look like SILK chiffon.

Midnight Angel -- the wool cape is of an appropriately heavy wool and the bodice of the dress is fitted and very lovely, with leg-o'-mutton sleeves.

Rain Song -- a silk hooded raincoat with a lovely lining. Wish they'd included a sheath dress in the same lining fabric! (Gene looks pretty risque under her coat!) Hope the boots turn out better than the prototype ones, which are just sloppy-looking fabric.

Safari -- the outfit is great, very detailed, but the pith helmet on the prototype is not particularly authentic-looking.
