CineFlexx Home Theater

Welcome To The

"CineFlexx" Home Theater

Thanks to inspiration from my good friend Bob Brown at AmateurHometheater.com, I embarked on my quest to develop my home theater. Hopefully, these pics will inspire you to develop your own screening room (if you've ever wanted to do this sort of thing). I can tell you that the sound and picture quality in my home now rivals and many times exceeds the presentation at a well-known chain "megaplex" theater. This is a bitter-sweet statement. I simply tired of getting up out of my seat to complain to a pre-pubescent theater manager that the film was out of focus or that the surrounds were not turned on in the theater resulting in monophonic sound (and hearing a reply like "the movie's not in mono, it's in digital"). And I tired of watching brand new films on opening weekends with scratches running down the screen for several reels. And let's not even get into cell phones, rude audiences, increasing ticket prices (plus parking), etc. Seems like bad movie-going experiences outweigh the good ones, like those I've had with these guys, and these guys.

Thanks for visiting,

Flexx

View from room entrance. Note ceiling-mounted Sanyo PLV-60 LCD projector (using Chief mount). Room also serves as a library and music listening room. "Memorabilia" placed throughout (more views below). Couch in the back is on a 6" riser for "stadium seating" effect and unobstructed viewing.

Someone is sitting in the sweet spot! Sweet wife not included.

92" Stewart Grayhawk Communicator screen with tab-tensioning system to provide flat optical surface can be rolled up to reveal closet behind screen. Note: screen is 16:9 format (HDTV dimensions) to maximize projection of films in anamorphic widescreen dvd in their original aspect ratios.

Equipment includes Panasonic RP-91 progressive scan dvd/dvd-audio player and Pioneer VSX-D509S receiver (Dolby Digital/DTS, 5.1 analog inputs for DVD-Audio). Speakers are all Sony - 515s (as main and surround speakers), CN-490 Center Speaker, SA-WM40 Sub-Woofer (hidden in closet behind screen).

The PLV-60 projector, Grayhawk screen and RP-91 progressive scan dvd player make an ideal combo. Why progressive scan dvd? Read this. If you have a TV or projector that accepts progressive scan video, take advantage of it!

Screenshot of Lawrence of Arabia DVD showing image size and quality. No scan lines! No scaling artifacts! This is the image using only the PLV-60 and RP-91 - no scaler! Remember, a screenshot from a digital camera does not do justice to the actual projected image. Still looks pretty good!

Closer view of the PLV-60. Connected to RP-91 via component connection. S-Video connection going to Sony MDP-500.

Cables produced by AVCable.com (ask for Jim Woodier). Excellent cables at an excellent price, and outstanding service.
