Out And About: Gibson Ranch

A real working ranch run by the County Parks department. A nice barnyard area with goats, llamas, sheep, pigs, etc that love to be fed! Horseback riding (add'l fee), or just feed them the horse treats ($1/pk at the general store). We like to visit the Wonder Thrift Bakery first (on Auburn near I-80), where they offer "wildlife bread" at 8 bags for a dollar. The geese can be a little agressive toward the wee ones, so you'll want to keep yours close while feeding them. There's a large lake where fishing is allowed, and several picnic areas throughout. Without exception, people working with the animals have been happy to explain and answer my children's questions. One Saturday, we were fortunate enough to watch a horseshoer at his trade while he explained everything to us. $4 per car parking fee
