DAIMLER is the kennel name of Terry and Diane Benz,
owner-breeder-exhibitors of Champion, Obedience, Agility, Herding,
Therapy titled and Nationally ranked Belgian Sheepdogs and Keeshonden.
That is not to say that our dogs live in a kennel. But rather, a kennel
name is more of a trademark that exhibitors associate with their dogs.
Being primarily an exhibitor, breeding sparingly and then only to produce
better Belgians and Kees is the guiding principle of Daimler Belgian
Sheepdogs and Keeshonden. Temperament and health are of top concern with
each breeding we are involved in, while maintaining breed type and
soundness is also very important to us. We are also involved with breed
rescue and referral, so we can often help you find the right match for
your family.
All our dogs are house dogs and members of the family as every dog should be. And because of that, not all the dogs live full time with us. Many of them are shared, as hard as that is, but we then have fun together meeting up with friends, at home, at dog show weekends, over the phone, or on the Internet.
Puppies from us are typically reserved far in advance, and occasionally adults are available. Our puppies are raised in our home - with lots of love and care. They are well socialized and extensively handled by us, our children, our friends, neighbors, and relatives. All our dogs are sold with a standard sales contract that includes health guarantees and rebates on AKC titles. We work with each buyer and their family to help them to find a quality local dog obedience school, and strongly encourage them to begin active lessons with their new addition, as soon as possible.
Our health tested Champion stud dogs are available under private contract to bitches that are complementary to them. We are close to Chicago's O'Hare Airport and also have chilled and frozen semen available through our ICG licensed veterinarian.
Our Keeshonden are largely from the quality kennels of Designer, Tanglewood, Windrift, Neradmik (England) and Keelane blood lines. This has allowed us to produce great structure (thanks in part to the Tanglewood) with adorable heads and breed type, thanks to Rita Jacobs at Designer designke@pacbell.net.
Our Belgians are roughly a 50/50 combination of US and European blood lines with blood lines from Rolin Ridge, Sundown, Johnsondale, Mi-sha-ook, du Domaine Ponti, and other French and Belgian kennels. We strongly work towards moderate to European type, with sound bodies and balanced temperament.
We abide by the KCA and BSCA Code of Ethics. All our dogs are OFA, CERF, and thyroid tested, as these are some of the key deciding factors before breeding plans are discussed. Breeder responsibility is not taken lightly here! Active debating is allowed as we discuss the merits (or downsides) of each breeding. We stand by the dogs we have produced for their lifetime. We reserve the right of first refusal to take a dog back, should our buyers ever need to re-home a dog they got from us. Mentoring is an active part of being a responsible breeder.
