Big Fun Brewing Homepage

It all started in 1996 with 2 boxes of Northwestern extract, some hops and Grandma's 5-gallon enamel canning kettle…
Then there was the National Homebrewing Day event with the Great Lakes Homebrewing Club and seeing Jeff Kane's RIMS system in action…

The long Wisconsin winter of '97 began with some duct tape, a Sears catalog and a coil of copper tubing. Big Fun Brewing was born.

The pages on the left will fill in some of the details. As for my reasons for building a HEMan (Heat Exchange MANifold) RIMS (Recirculation Infusion Mash System) Brewery, I offer the following:

       Top Ten Reasons to
   Build a RIMS Brewery
10. Brewing Moves Outside for Easy Cleanup.
9. All Components are Matched to the System.
8. Step Mashing for Complicated Beer Styles.

7. Fast Mash Conversion.
6. Clear Wort Run Off.
5. Excellent System Efficiency.
4. Batch to Batch Recipe Control.

3. Complete Mash Temperature Regulation.
2. Brew Great All Grain Beer!
1. Having the Ultimate Home Brewing

   Lessons Learned

  • Whatever the final design, it will change once you start brewing.
  • You can tell when your RIMS Brewery is close to completion when your last three consecutive trips to the hardware/supply house were each under $5.00.
  • Building a RIMS Brewery will cost twice as much and take three times as long as planned and provide five times more enjoyment than any other way of home brewing.
  • It is Big Fun Brewing with a RIMS Home Brewery.
READ THIS WARNING !!!

Building and using a RIMS home brewery involves: the use of dangerous hand tools, fire, electricity, water, propane gas, hot boiling liquids, lifting heavy objects, melting solder, sharp and pointy objects, fumes, pinch points, poisonous materials and other potential dangers too numerous to mention. Follow all applicable OSHA safety guidelines. Use your best judgment. Your results may vary. I am not responsible for any harm that befalls you while attempting this expensive, dangerous and very rewarding project!
Build a RIMS, the journey is the reward !
Keep out of reach of children and pets!!
Do not Drink and Drive! Have fun, and be careful!
