Our Miller family information begins with Jacob Miller born in abt 1702 in Germany. At the age of 12, he sailed to America. From the best and most authentic records in our family tradition it is stated that he met a young lady by the name of Margaret Miller on the voyage. She was from another part of Germany and was not related to him. During the long trip, they became well acquainted even though one spoke High German and the other spoke Low German. Their affections grew with time and in 1725 they were married. They lived together on a farm about thirty miles from Philadelphia near a place called Falkner's Swamp.
Jacob and Margaret are said to have had seven children, though I have the birth information for only my direct ancestor:

Jacob Miller, born in 1729, grew up on in his father's home on the farm in PA, but later relocated to Rockingham County, VA. He is said to have been a very strong, well-proportioned man a full six feet in height. His wife, Elizabeth, could stand under his outstretched arm without her head touching his arm. He was a farmer but was also considered a first-rate blacksmith. He and Elizabeth were married in 1748 had nine children: Jacob, Charles, Mary, Elizabeth, Katherine, Barbary, John, and George b. 5 Oct 1774.
The family moved to Rockingham County, Virginia in 1775. Two years later in 1777, Elizabeth died.
In 1779, Jacob married Margaret Sullivan, "an Irish girl", against her parents' wishes. Jacob and Margaret are said to have had eight children, but I only have information on seven:

Peter and Sarah (Simmons) Miller moved from Virginia to Ohio with her parents in October of 1819, then the Millers moved to Indiana in March of 1821
In Indiana, they purchased and settled the north side of what later became Highway 244. Peter owned approximately 600 acres in Richland Township, Rush County; some of the property was from government land grants.
They had seven children; all but one, Sarah, were born in Virginia:

Archibald was a farmer in the 97th district of Rush County. According to The Bicentennial History of Rush County issued in 1921, he owned 343 acres of land.

Eliphalet B. Miller enlisted in the Union army on July 21, 1862 and was a honored veteran of the Civil War. He went to the front as a private in C Company 68th Regiment, Indiana Volunteer Infantry. He was discharged three years later as a sergeant of C Company on June 25, 1865 in Nashville, TN. After the war, he went to Illinois and devoted his time to farming.
Around 1883, he and his family returned to Rush County, IN and purchased 147 acres of land which he farmed until his death in 1887.
Mary died giving birth to their seventh child. Their children are:
