David Stewart is the first known progenitor of our Jefferson County, Indiana
Stewarts. He was born in Virginia in 1720. He married a lady of Scottish birth
whose first name was Elizabeth. David was a farmer and he and Elizabeth are
said to have had a large family; however only four names have been documented:
Levi, a powder maker was killed in an explosion.
David, a distiller was drowned.
Benjamin, a farmer like his father.
Isaiah, the youngest known child
David and his family moved to Kentucky during the early migrations, settling
near Mt. Sterling, Montgomery County.
THE ABOVE INFORMATION COMES FROM THE PAPERS OF EDNA LANHAM; HOWEVER, I’M
INCLINED TO BELIEVE THAT THERE IS A GENERATION MISSING. ISAIAH, LISTED AS THE
YOUNGEST CHILD, WAS BORN IN 1797 WHEN THIS DAVID WOULD HAVE BEEN 77 YEARS OLD.
MUCH MORE RESEARCH NEEDS TO BE DONE HERE.
