From its onset, the band was plagued with the nasty rumour that the name SOMF was an acronym for some vulgar expression. In fact, the name was derived from the rather innocuous expression "Sons of Maitland, Florida" because the founding members of the band, Jim "Cactus" Stanley, Tommy Jo Shannon, and (Dr.) Chris Bensen lived there at the time. Another untruth was that the band somehow was big on drugs. In a August 1979 interview with FREEBIRD magazine bandmembers were quoted as saying "We don't take drugs".

SOMF originated out of the Pitcher House Pub, which has survived all these years and is still in business today!
The players are:
Randy Kline on guitar
Jim "Cactus" Stanley on guitar
Johnny Krain on drums
Tommy Jo Shannon on bass
Kapp Pierce on bass
Bob "Bird" Cara on bass (see a pattern developing here?)
Jerome Rillera on sound mixing
Other key players were:
Marc Clermont, Chris Benson, Howie Holt, Pat Hartin, Pat Morrison

Key supporters: Curt Coniglio, Larry Howd, Jeff Dart, Fred "Zappa" Tartaglia, Mike Snell, Maureen and sisters, Maureen O., Annette, Darla, Paula (Sarge), Barney, Jerry, Richie Butler, Billy Murphy, Sandi Gillett-Pierce, John Link, Hoppy, David Weisenburg, RicToddand a lot of other people who are going to be honked off that their names aren't listed here.
