CRAAAAACK!! Roy Harris is the first instructor to send one out of the park in a long time. Roy brings together everything that one could look for in a tape. Clear teaching, no padding, and fresh material that fills a need.

This tape focuses on the situation where you and your opponent start sparring from your knees in Sport BJJ or submission grappling. Getting the advantage when starting on your knees is a whole art form that has remained hidden from the tape training market, that is, until now. Nobody has touched this topic. You might wonder why this topic has been overlooked. Well, it could be that this material will not make you a better fighter in a tournament. It is mainly only in a training or in the school environment that two people would start to grapple facing each other on their knees. However, I will venture a guess that most BJJ school sparring sessions start this way. So, in the end, this might be one of the most useful tapes you could buy.

The moves on this tape fall into 4 categories:
If you are sick of being on the losing end of the stick with your opponent always getting the advantage at the start of your sparring sessions, this tape is for you. There is nothing all that fun about always fighting from a disadvantage and poor positioning. This tape will give you the moves and a game plan to get the advantage at the start of your sparring sessions. If your only game plan is to "pull the guard," go to the back of the class with your head held in shame and while you are there, order this tape.

This tape was professionally done, has about 30 moves on it, and is about an hour long. Roy's teaching is very clear. There no wasted time on this tape, so you are getting your money's worth. After each technique, Roy presents a written description that walks you through the technique he just demonstrated. This is very useful for those who have a hard time taking notes. He also does not fall into the trap of mixing Sport BJJ with Vale Tudo. This is clearly a Sport BJJ and submission grappling tape.

A few words about Roy Harris. Roy has studied 20 different marital arts. He started his BJJ training at the Gracie Academy in Torrance. While there, he was privileged to train with Royler, Rorion, Royce, and Rickson. Roy also trained with the Machado Brothers and Nelson Monteiro. It was under the instruction of Joe Moreira that he earned his Black Belt in BJJ in 1998 and second degree in 2001. As far as I know, Roy has never competed in MMA events. I don't know anything about Roy's Sport BJJ record. To read more about Roy's very interesting training history click here.

Bottom Line:
This is a very specialized tape for those people who go to a school where you start grappling from your knees. For those just starting out, you will need to get a foundation before this tape really is needed. Once you have reached proficiency with the basics, then it is time to look for specialized tapes like this one. I hope that Roy does a couple more tapes on this subject. He has only scratched the surface.
