The Battlefield Fire Protection District is located in Greene County, Missouri. The District protects an area of approximately 32-square miles just southwest of Springfield, Mo. There are about 25,000 residents in the District with much of the area residential.
The District operates out of three stations with three engines, one rescue-engine, four tankers, a heavy rescue, a light rescue, and a water rescue/rehab unit. About 40 volunteers staff the District with a full-time chief, secretary and maintenance person. About one-third of the fire fighters are female. Battlefield Fire Fighters are certified to the Fire Fighter II level by the Missouri Division of Fire Safety under the National Fire Protection Association 1001-1992 standard.
The District provides Advanced Life Support Medical Care with registered nurses, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, and first responders.
In 1996, Battlefield Fire Fighters responded to a total of 679 emergency calls with 439 of thse involving rescues and medical emergencies. Fire fighters attended a total of 5,765 hours of training in 1996.
The District is organized under Missouri State Statutes and is administered by a Board of Directors elected by the residents. Funding is provided through its own tax-base.

District Fire Fighters train for flashover survival using the Swede Survival System. Battlefield is the only department in Missouri with this system which was developed by the Swedish National Fire Board.
