Printed by Piatnik for Lion's Playing Cards of Israel, these cards, with their courts bearing figures from the Torah (or Old Testament, depending on your point of view), have been delighting collectors of unusual decks since 1965.
"JACOB'S BIBLE CARDS bring the romance and colour of the BIBLE into the CARD-PACK. By substituting famous Bible characters for the conventional Kings, Queens and Jacks, these Cards enable the players to combine education with pleasure.
The pictures were designed by RABAN - the famous Bible Artist."

The following quotes are also from the deck's pamphlet:

The King of Clubs

"AHASEURUS (Xerxes, Rex Pesarum): King of Persia, shown smoking his Oriental-style pipe, with goblet in hand, as at the feast described in the book of ESTHER, Chapter 1."
The Jack of Diamonds

"JOAB (Dux Exercitus Davidis): Son of Zeruiah, the Captain of David's Host, a man of wrath and violence. Book of Samuel, Lib. II, Chapter 2."
The Ace of Spades

Includes Lion's logo.
The Joker

"ASMODAI: The black-winged Demon with taloned feet, who delights to upset the plans of men."
The Card Back

A menorah, surrounded by the signs of the Zodiac, and flanked by two letters: an English "M" on the left, a Hebrew "mem" on the right. Why the zodiac? Why "M" and "mem"? Good questions, and ones I hope to answer some day.
