May 12, 1968 was the most dramatic day of the Vietnam War as C-130s, C-123s and US Army and USMC helicopters evacuated the defenders of the camp at Kham Duc. Eight airplanes were shot down over Kham Duc, including two C-130s. C-123 pilot Lt. Col. Joe M. Jackson earned the Medal of Honor -
