ARTISTS BIO:
John Mars is a self-taught painter and photographer who has three times won the Ontario Arts Council Individual Artists Award of Merit. His work has been featured in eight, one person exhibitions in Canada and the United States and has been featured in many group shows.
"As a young artist, I had the good fortune of friendships with Graham Coughtry and Michael Snow. We played in jazz groups together and I learned a lot from listening to those two guys talking about art. Graham's expressionistic style had a huge impact on me. He used great amounts of paint and although my work doesn't look at all like his, he got me into using a lot of paint. He also got me hooked on collecting books on art history."

The paintings and photographs of John Mars have appeared on album covers, posters and numerous magazines in North America. A recent painting appeared in the Union Gas Annual Report for Ontario.
