of BMG Engineering, Inc

Introduction

Web pages very greatly. BMG Engineering will work with you during the initial phase of your project, to help you explore the options and costs. To that end, this paper has been written as an initial guide to you. Read it over, and think about how your project should be developed and maintained. If you wish to proceed with your project, contact the author of this paper, telling him what you have in mind. He will then enter into communications with you to help you refine your page goals and general approach. A reasonable amount of time will be provided free of charge during this phase.

Our Promise

BMG Engineering promises you that it will not try to sell you services your don't need. We will listen to your ideas and make our recommendations based on what we believe to be the best and most cost-effective approach for your project, even it is less than you initially had in mind. The ultimate decisions are yours.

Here are some of the major considerations for you to think about before committing to a Web Page Design and Development.

1) Who is the target audience.

  • Why will they be interested in your page?
  • What information would they like to get from your page?
  • Are they busy business people?
  • Are they likely to be shopping for something you are selling?
  • Is the page being set up for communications with / between / to members of an existing organization?

2) What kind of information will be provided on your page?

  • A schedule that changes periodically?
  • Tutorials?
  • Selling product?
  • Forms the customer will fill out?

3) Content:

  • High ratio of "Glitz & Dazzle" to Information?
  • High ratio of Information to "Glitz & Dazzle?"
  • A mix of Information and "Glitz & Dazzle?"
  •
  • "Glitz" and "Dazzle" may not be needed or wanted, because they slow down the busy visitor who is in search of information.

4) Does the owner have a particular style or image he wishes to project? Please describe it.

5) How often are updates likely to occur?

  • Some pages do not require any significant upkeep after being published.
  • Other may require regular updates, possibly even daily, with many changes each time.
  • Many might require periodic and minor updates.

6) How much effort / content at each update?

7) Who will maintain the Page? The owner or BMG Engineering, Inc.? If BMG, this will require a second contract.

8) What search words might potential visitor key into a WWW Search Engine (such as Yahoo) if they were looking for a page like yours?

Due to these wide ranging variables, each page is unique, and its authoring needs to have an initial "Concept discussion" phase. Read over the above material and use it to refine your needs as best you can. Write those out, and send a copy to me. Provide full contact information by which to reach you, especially Email address and FAX number. When I receive it, and have reviewed it, I will contact you with any questions and further discussion.

Server

BMG Engineering, Inc does not own a server. The customer's site will be installed either on the customer's present Internet Service Provider's site, or on an AOL site. AOL has a $4.95 per month option, which provides 3 hours per month access time and 10 MB of server space for Web Site or FTP site.

How We Do Business

BMG Engineering bills the customer using a form showing the services performed and their prices. (See a blank Example.)

After the "Concept discussion" phase this form is used to produce an ESTIMATE of the work and its cost. When that ESTIMATE is agreed to, the Customer will be invoiced for 1/2 the cost estimated.

If during the work it becomes evident that the scale of the task is significantly different than the estimate, BMG Engineering, Inc. will notify the customer for possible renegotiation of the job.

At completion and customer's acceptance of the finished Web Site, a new invoice is created showing the full and true cost. The customer will be billed the full cost, less the initial payment.

A contract for page maintenance can be negotiated after completion of the page.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
