Thomas Brent Thomas was
born in Mariemont, Ohio on August 22, 1973 to
Charlene Morris Thomas and Larry Wayne Thomas. He

Plain, Ohio before his parents moved to Goshen,
where they resided until 1984. His sister, Chalee,

Milford, where his parents still reside today. The
entire family has a dedication to public education,

County, and his sister a fifth grade teacher in
Clermont County. Mr. Thomas
attended Milford High School, and was involved in a
variety of activities. In 1988, he joined the
student youth-in-government program and was
committee chairperson in the mock senate held at
the Columbus State House, while simultaneously he
co-authored a bill which would require automobile
emissions testing, a bill ahead of its time. He was
a member of the National Honor Society, and was
also a peer tutor to junior high and high school
students in need of remedial and special help. He
graduated in 1991. In the fall of
1991, Mr. Thomas entered Miami University, Oxford.
Majoring in secondary science education, he assumed
more responsibilities focusing on helping others.
He joined the universities Office of Learning
Assistance, where he served as a chemistry tutor to
college age students. Additionally, he entered the
Big Brother/Little Brother program which provided
role models for children with no father at home. In
1993, he became involved with the Odyssey of the
Mind Program and coached 10 high school boys to two
titles based on critical thinking and design of a
scientific problem. During this time period, he
also worked at the Cincinnati Nature Center for
three summers as a counselor on ecological issues
for school age children. Mr. Thomas
returned to Milford High School in the fall of 1995
to student teach under Mrs. Holly Ruff,
award-winning teacher-of the-year. He graduated
from Miami in the winter of 1995 with a Bachelor of
Science degree in Education, certified to teach
Biology and Chemistry at the secondary level.
During this time, he worked at Sylvan Learning
centers in Milford and Tri-County. In the spring of
1996, he took the role of long-term substitute at
CNE High School. In June of that year, he was hired
at Lakota High School, and moved to the new Lakota
West High School when it opened in 1997, where he
currently teaches and coaches track. All the while,
he pursued his Masters degree during the summer and
attended night classes. He received the Master of
Teaching in August of 1998. Mr. Thomas also
teaches a college level botany course for Miami
University. Mr. Thomas
continues to seek new experiences. He recently
completed a four week summer science expedition to
the Bahamas, Florida and the Southeast with the
Kettering Summer Field Studies. Read about the
expedition here. Mr. Thomas has
aspirations to continue his interaction with film
producer Godfrey Reggio and the Institute for
Regional Education. The products of the interaction
most notably are the films Koyaanisqatsi and
Powaqqatsi, which he promotes as special viewing
opportunities for the community at Lakota West.
Currently, Mr.
Thomas resides in the northern Cincinnati area. His
interests include dance music, clothes, and cars -
particulary VW's and Porsches, both of which he
owns. Brent
